Devon Kane is a USA international Grand Prix dressage rider, trainer, and competitor for the stunning, family run, Diamante Farms dressage facility in Wellington, Florida, where she works, trains and competes during the winter season. In the summer Devon is based in Germany where she competes and trains with Hubertus Schmidt.
How did horses come into your life and transpire to dressage?

Devon with Vamos
My mom grew up with horses in South Texas, so I was riding from a young age — mostly Western pleasure and bareback. In 4th grade, I tried hunter jumpers with a friend, but a bad accident left me afraid to ride. Determined to overcome it, I turned to dressage as a safer option and quickly fell in love with its precision and rhythm. I trained in San Antonio, became a working student for Michelle Gibson at fifteen, and worked in Atlanta before settling in Wellington. Now, in 2025, I’m based in Paderborn, Germany, training with Hubertus Schmidt, and in Wellington, I work with Lars Petersen.
Who do you currently ride?
Vamos, my 12-year-old Westfalian gelding by Vitalis, is competing in CDI Grand Prix. We were top U.S. riders at the CDIO in Wellington, are showing in Europe this summer at GP4*, and are qualified for the U.S. Open. This season, we aim to qualify for the World Cup tour in Dallas.
Tell us about Diamante Farms

Devon at home schooling Vamos.
Diamante began as my dad’s ranch in Texas. While I was working in Atlanta, he bought a farm there, and later one in Wellington, home to the first covered arena in the area. After 20 years, we expanded to our current 32-stall, 20-acre facility in Little Ranches to accommodate more clients, horses, and staff.
Who have been your most influential trainers?
Hubertus Schmidt and Lars Petersen for their horsemanship, empathy for the horse, and adaptable training approach.
It takes a team to do dressage, who is in your support team?

Devon Kane and her husband, Kevin Kohmann
Kevin, Terri, my son, my home team of grooms and riders, farriers, and vet. I value surrounding myself with supportive people, seeking advice, and learning from everyone.
What do you love about dressage?
The deep connection and trust between horse and rider, the subtle, unspoken communication, and the unique bond with each horse. I also love teaching and competing, but riding itself is my passion.
What does a typical day look like for you?

Devon and Kevin celebrating his double victory at Haagen CDI3* where they were both competing
I start early with my dogs, arriving at the barn before 8am. I ride a couple of my own horses first, then spend the day teaching and training. I separate personal riding from client work to keep focus, and I make time to eat and stay energised.
Proudest achievements?
Winning individual gold and team bronze at NAJYRC in 2007, competing in CDIOs and 5* events, and training three CDI horses to Grand Prix. I’m also proud of supporting my son in earning a full academic and athletic scholarship while maintaining a happy marriage.
Your future aspirations?
To represent the U.S. team internationally in any capacity.
