Ehren Volk dressage rider and trainer in Canada

Ehren Volk is a Canadian dressage rider and professional dressage trainer/coach. Horses have always been a huge part of Ehren’s life and she has enjoyed many highlights during her career to date including working for Shannon Peters for nine successful years in San Diego before moving back to Canada. Ehren currently has two horses of her own to develop. One is a coming six-year-old gelding by Kremlin that she imported, and the other is a coming four-year-old by Escamillo, bred in Canada by Spruce view Hanoverians.

How did you start riding?

My mom was very passionate about horses. My sister and I rode while in the womb. I went through pony club, receiving my HA. We also competed in eventing. When my pony couldn’t jump any higher, I pivoted my focus to dressage and never looked back. Dressage is such an intricate, difficult sport. I fell in love.

Do you have a regular coach?

I am fortunate to have lessons from Shannon Peters. Right now, she teaches me via online lessons. I worked for the Peters for nine years and primarily trained with Shannon the whole time.

You worked for SPeters Dressage, tell us about your time there?

I moved to San Diego, California to be a working student with the Peters’ right after I graduated high school. I was planning to go for 3 months and stayed for 9 years. Eventually I became an assistant trainer to Shannon and had my own students and business. I am forever grateful to Arroyo Del Mar and the Peters for all they have taught me.

Why did you leave?

My mom was diagnosed with cancer, and I decided it was time to move back to Victoria, BC to spend time with my family. I was blessed with a daughter in 2023. I now currently coach and train in the area.

What do you love about riding and why dressage?

The horses! Dressage is all about the fine details. I love the harmony that you thrive for and the connection you build with your horse.

What does 2025 hold for you?

I am hoping to get my geldings out to show!

Who has been the most influential person on your dressage journey?

Ehron and Weltinos Magic, who she rode in the young riders division and also learnt the Grand Prix movements on

Shannon Peters.

What are your future aspirations?

I would love to develop my two geldings and am looking forward to where we go.  I am hoping to get back in the show ring this year.

Your Top Tip

Love the journey and listen to your horse.

What is the best piece of advice that you have ever been given?

Use your time and energy towards things that mean the most to you in life. Life is incredibly short; you don’t want to waste it on negativity.

It takes a team to do dressage, who is in your support team?

I have a wonderful group of students as well as my family here in Canada and my second family in San Diego.
